flower dreams

12 Jan

Living in Melbourne, I always get stuck with stormy days. Although some people complain about rainy days, a few days of rain is perfect for me to snuggle up at home in my favorite layers with a cup of chamomile tea and I’ll sketch away.

Inspired by a dream I had about running in flower fields, I decided to sketch a full collection!

Five beauty picks

11 Jan

Last year few girlfriends and I decided to try out more make-up products than what we usually use. This girly experiment leads to my new-found obsession with make-up. It became so much more than just something you put on your face, but it determines the mood and the look you are after for the day. Throughout 2010, I’ve tried 5 bronzers, 8 eyeshadow palletes, 5 mascaras, 10 lipglosses, 56 nail polish (yes a bit mad!) and here are my top picks of the category.

1. Nars Bronzing Powder- Laguna

I particularly love this bronzer because of its color. Being asian, it’s very hard for me to find a bronzer that suits my skin. They usually are either too red/dark or too sheer. Laguna has enough glitter to make my skin glow under the sun and yet just the right amount of tint to make me look sun-kissed instead of sun-burnt.

2. Stila Wheel eyeshadow palette

This eyeshadow palette is AMAZING! Besides the variety of colors (you basically get every color imaginable), the eyeshadow clings to your skin so it won’t need any re-applying for at least the next 5 hours. It comes with two dual-sided brush for the perfect application of your color of choice!

3. Diorshow mascara– black

I have been using this mascara for about 3 years now, and I swear by it! I have yet to find a mascara that is better than this. The combination of the mascara and the soft bristly brush makes my super straight eyelashes look fuller, longer and prettier.

4. Kit Cosmetics Lip Sheen

Kit Cosmetics lip sheen has been in my bag for over 6 months now, and it is so handy because it comes in a tube (goodbye nasty melted lipgloss!) I use it every night before I go to bed and I wake up with kissable lips. Plus the minty smell is so refreshing!

5. Chanel Nail Vernis– Le Particuliere

This color has been my fail-safe color for the year. Although the nude trend started in 2010, wearing pastel colored nail polish (like Pre Fall/ Winter 2010 trend) makes me feel juvenile and wearing gray nail polish (Fall/Winter 2010 trend) makes me feel washed out. This color is so flattering and suits any skin color.

artsy fartsy!

I know Sex and the City 2 is quite old news now. But with the release of the movie on DVD, I remember how amazingly glamorous the fashion in this movie is! Two of my favorites are the the Emilio Pucci dress (which retails for $9000) displayed on the movie’s poster and the J’Adore Dior 8 top Carrie wore during her reunion with old flame, Aidan. Here’s the sketches I did for these outfits.

Venice Beach/ Santa Monica Pier

5 Jan

During my trip in LA, we went on too many shopping malls and did too much damage. A trip down to Venice beach and Santa Monica was a nice change for us as we can finally experience LA’s different cultures. It was a bit cold that day, so we made ourselves warm by drinking horchata, tandem biking, watching skaterdudes, and of course climbing up graffiti’ed walls!

outfit: urban outfitters hairclip, country road loop scarf, my cousin's jacket, juicy couture red stripes cardigan, seamlesscize lace tights, mimco boots

smells like teen spirit

Inspired by Kurt Cobain and Nirvana, grunge has become more than a music genre, it has become a fashion style. Poster girl Erin Wasson is the perfect example of how one can juxtapose femininity and toughness at the same time. Putting together tough leather and accessories with sexy heels and roomy oversized tops, this look simply says “I don’t care about the fact that I look cool”. In 1996, Marc Jacobs created a collection that oozes this nonchalant charm and attitude. Currently, favorites are designers such as Alexander Wang, Acne, Cheap Monday and of course Topshop for more affordable options. Here are a few looks that I’ve put together!

  1. Bosworth cashmere sweater by The Row
  2. Zulu Leather shorts by Alice by Temperley

prim and proper

3 Jan

Long are the days of ripped jeans and dirty hair, 2011 is all about ladylike fashion. Representing femininity, 50s inspired fashion celebrates women’s curves instead of covering them. Although demure, these dresses emphasize the bust and waist, think Marilyn Monroe or modern day Doutzen Kroes. So ladies, hide your curves no more, because they make the boys (and the fashion gods) go ga-ga.

  1. Mini avola dress by Temperley London
  2. Floral stud dress by Rare for Topshop
  3. Mavis Rose dress by Review
  4. Scalloped silk organza dress by Stella McCartney
  5. Whipstitch leather dress by Chloe
  6. Flock spot dress by Review
